Database contact management is very important in today’s fast paced business economy.  A contact management database holds a range of data about a contact including their name, their address, their phone number and email, what organization they are with, etc.  Some companies may decide to develop a Microsoft Access database or a Microsoft Excel database to store contact information. Many people do not know that Microsoft Outlook can manage contacts quite well. 

Microsoft Outlook is used for email and is part of the Microsoft Office Suite.  The contacts module in Outlook 2000 is actually a database.  In the contacts module you can choose how you would like the data viewed, add or delete fields, and conduct searches.  Outlook also allows the user to tag records for retrieval later.

Another handy feature of using outlook 2000 as your database contact management is that it is integrated with Microsoft Word.  This means that you can export your outlook contacts directly into Microsoft Word very easily.  This makes it very easy to produce mailing labels, for example.  It should be noted; however, that previous version of Microsoft outlook did not include this level of functionality.

Microsoft Outlook 2000 is a multi-faceted program that allows for the use of email as well as a data management tool.  It does have its limitations and is probably only useful to smaller businesses for database contact management.  There is literally thousands of other database contact management software available to meet your specific needs.  The question you need to ask yourself is what I need in a contact management software package.  Once you understand what level of sophistication you need in your database contact management software, you can do your homework on which software would be a perfect fit to your business and your budget.
